IDOC Release and Transfer Meaning
The Illinois Department of Corrections is a statewide system, not a Winnebago County jail. A county defendant sent to IDOC has transferred into continuing prison custody. The Winnebago roster may stop showing that person even though no community release occurred. A later PAROLE status can confirm release from prison onto parole or mandatory supervised release, while final discharge means the sentence and supervision relationship has ended.
No separate state prison was verified inside Winnebago County. The Sheriff's published route says men first go to Stateville Reception and Classification and women to Logan Correctional Center as of the research date. Routing can change, so the receiving institution shown by IDOC controls.
| IDOC event | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Admission after mittimus | County-to-state transfer |
| IN CUSTODY | State confinement continues |
| PAROLE | Prison exit with supervision |
| Final discharge | Live record may disappear |
Search IDOC Winnebago Releases
The IDOC Individual in Custody Search accepts last name, IDOC number, or birthdate. Match identity through Offender Status, Location, Parent Institution, conviction county, offense, custody date, and sentencing entries.
Use a consistent lookup process.
- Search by IDOC number when available, otherwise use surname or birthdate.
- Verify Winnebago County sentencing information.
- Read Offender Status and Location before any date.
- Record the exact Projected Parole Date, Last Paroled Date, and Projected Discharge Date labels.
- Date-stamp the check because information changes.
IDOC Projected Release Fields
Projected Parole Date is IDOC's anticipated transition point from incarceration. It is not a guaranteed pickup appointment. Last Paroled Date is historical. Projected Discharge Date concerns the expected end of the sentence or supervision relationship. These dates answer different questions.
Sentence credit, jail credit, a court change, statutory eligibility, revoked credit, and other lawful events can alter a projection. Illinois law does not support one universal percentage rule. Identify the offense statute and date, then read 730 ILCS 5/3-6-3. Recheck IDOC instead of treating an old date as fixed.
- Projected parole date
- Current estimate for leaving prison under the applicable status.
- Projected discharge date
- Expected endpoint of sentence or supervision.
- Parole or MSR
- Supervision after prison, not final discharge.
- Mittimus
- Court commitment directing prison custody.
IDOC Archived Release Records
IDOC says its live search covers public information about people currently incarcerated or on parole. Someone who completed the sentence may no longer display. Absence cannot prove that the person was never in IDOC or establish a discharge date.
Use IDOC Contact Us and select Record Search for an archived record. Provide full name, birthdate, approximate reception year, institution if known, conviction county, and relevant dates. Ask for existing admission, release, parole, and discharge information tied to the Winnebago commitment.

IDOC Parole Is Not Probation
IDOC Parole supervises people released from state prison. The Prisoner Review Board handles conditions and specified hearings. Winnebago Adult Probation supervises a sentence imposed by the 17th Circuit. Pretrial Services handles conditions while a case remains pending.
An IDOC profile with PAROLE and a parole district confirms that prison confinement ended and supervision began. It does not prove final discharge. County probation cannot resolve an IDOC record. The Winnebago parole and probation resource separates these paths.
Note: IDOC Wanted Fugitives is an absconder channel, not a full list of everyone under supervision.
Winnebago IDOC Evidence Chain
Start with the Winnebago docket when it shows a prison sentence or mittimus. The Sheriff transfer entry shows the county event. IDOC controls the state phase. Pairing these sources avoids calling a roster disappearance a release.
If IDOC says IN CUSTODY, state confinement continues. If it says PAROLE, record the Parole Date, district, and Projected Discharge Date. Compare county, offense, count, custody date, and mittimus to the local case. Same-name errors are possible.
A court order can precede movement, and an intake record may lag transport. Preserve timestamps, contact the custodian, and do not choose a result because it seems more favorable.
ICE Holds During IDOC Release
Research Angle K applies when immigration authorities become the next custodian. Release from IDOC to ICE is a transfer, not community release. The ICE Online Detainee Locator is the next channel, but no-result can reflect delay, mismatch, transfer, removal, conditional release, or limits.
Confirm the IDOC destination when disclosable, then follow ICE through ODLS or ERO. A parole date does not prove a community exit if an immigration pickup directed movement to federal custody.
Federal Custody Beyond IDOC
Research Angle T documents roughly 35 federal adults housed monthly at the Winnebago County Jail, but those contract beds are separate from IDOC. Physical location does not always identify legal custody. A person can move among county, state, USMS, BOP, and ICE systems.
Use the federal docket and BOP locator for a federal sentence. Use ODLS for ICE. Neither is an IDOC archive. Name whether evidence supports community release, supervision, transfer, removal, or final discharge.
Note: A sound release account identifies both the facility whose custody ended and any authority that received the person next.
IDOC Release Record Fields
The live profile includes identity and custody data that should be read as one record. Observed fields include a photograph option, name, IDOC number, Parent Institution, Offender Status, Location, date of birth, physical descriptors, marks or tattoos, admission date, and an admission, release, and discharge block. Sentencing entries can show mittimus, class, count, offense, custody date, sentence, county, and whether that sentence entry is discharged.
Those details help distinguish people with the same name and connect a state record to a Winnebago County judgment. They also prevent one date from carrying too much weight. Admission marks entry into IDOC. A projected parole date concerns anticipated prison release. A projected discharge date concerns the expected later endpoint. A sentence-level discharged field relates to that count and should be identified as such.
For durable confirmation, ask the Public Information Office for the existing record rather than requesting an interpretation. State the Winnebago conviction county and known case facts. When the public profile and family information conflict, use the exact IDOC status as of the check date and seek the archived or agency record before making a broader claim.
